deen.in ("the App") is an Islamic companion app built with privacy as a core principle. We believe your spiritual journey is deeply personal and should remain that way. This policy explains how we handle your data — or rather, how we don't.

In short: deen.in collects no personal data. We have no ads, no tracking, and no accounts. Everything stays on your device.

1. Data We Do NOT Collect

deen.in does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data. Specifically:

  • No account or registration — the app works immediately with no sign-up
  • No analytics or tracking — we do not track how you use the app
  • No advertising — zero ads, no ad networks, no ad identifiers
  • No cookies or fingerprinting — we do not track you across any platform
  • No data shared with third parties — your data stays on your device
  • No server-side storage — we do not operate user data servers
  • No behavioral profiling — we do not build profiles about you

2. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The following data is stored on your device only and never leaves it:

  • Bookmarks — Quran verses and pages you save
  • App settings — theme, font size, selected reciter, prayer calculation method, notification preferences
  • Reading progress — your last read position and reading plan progress
  • Prayer tracker data — daily prayer check-offs, streaks, and history
  • Tasbih counter — your counting progress and custom presets
  • Fasting tracker — your fasting log and schedule
  • Gratitude journal — your wellness reflections and entries
  • Downloaded translations — offline Quran translations stored in a local database

This data is stored using your device's local storage and SQLite database. If you uninstall the app, all local data is permanently deleted. We cannot recover it because we never had access to it.

3. Location Data

deen.in requests location permission solely to:

  • Calculate accurate prayer times for your geographic location
  • Determine the Qibla (direction of Makkah) for prayer

Your location is processed entirely on your device using the open-source adhan.js library. Your coordinates are:

  • Never sent to any server
  • Never stored beyond the current session
  • Never shared with any third party
  • Never used for any purpose other than prayer times and Qibla

You can deny location permission and manually enter your city instead.

4. Network Requests

The app connects to the internet only for the following content (no personal data is transmitted):

  • Quran text and translations — fetched from open-source APIs (fawazahmed0/quran-api via jsDelivr/GitHub)
  • Quran audio — streamed from everyayah.com and quranicaudio.com
  • Haramain live streams — official Makkah and Madinah video feeds

No personal data, device identifiers, IP addresses, or usage patterns are included in these requests. You can use the app fully offline after downloading Quran translations.

5. Crash Reporting

deen.in may use Sentry for anonymous crash reporting to help us fix bugs and improve stability. If enabled, Sentry collects only:

  • Device type and OS version (e.g., "Samsung Galaxy S24, Android 15")
  • App version and crash stack traces

Sentry does not collect: names, email addresses, phone numbers, location data, or any personally identifiable information (PII).

6. Children's Privacy

deen.in does not knowingly collect any data from children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction) or any other users. The app contains no mechanism for data collection, account creation, or user identification. The app content is suitable for all ages and contains only Islamic educational and spiritual material.

7. Permissions Used

  • Location (Android/iOS) — For prayer times and Qibla direction (on-device only)
  • Notifications (Android/iOS) — For adhan alerts and prayer reminders (opt-in)
  • Vibration (Android) — For haptic feedback in tasbih counter and UI interactions
  • Internet (Android/iOS) — For Quran content, audio streaming, and live streams
  • Motion/Compass (iOS) — For Qibla compass functionality

No permissions are used for tracking, advertising, or data collection.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

Since all data is stored locally on your device:

  • Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all data
  • You can clear app data from your device settings at any time
  • We cannot access, retrieve, or restore your data because it never leaves your device

9. International Users

deen.in is available worldwide. Since we do not collect or process any personal data, GDPR (EU), CCPA (California), and other data protection regulations are inherently satisfied. There is no data to protect because we never collect it.

10. Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, we will change the "Last updated" date above and publish the new version at this URL. Since we collect no data, material changes are unlikely. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
